AN UNUSUAL KHORASSAN PIERCED BRONZE INCENSE BURNER of shallow cylindrical form with domed cover and heavy knop on three shaped legs with hoof feet and upper lion heads, the tubular handle with ball and floral terminal, the body pierced with bands of knotted interlace around the sides, the lobed hinged cover with panels depicting birds, scrolling vine border above and knotted rope below, the clasp surmounted by a stylised bird, the ball and flowerhead finial similarly surmounted, the separately fashioned handle with bayonet fixing into the body pierced with bands of roundels, a band of stylised kufic above and below, circa 12th century (areas of slight encrustation and restoration)
