AN UNUSUAL LARGE BRONZE JARDINIERE
17TH/18TH CENTURY
The deep, tapering body is crisply cast in relief with four large panels enclosing barbed quatrefoils cast in high relief with lion-mask and loose ring handles at the top, and variously decorated with a boy amidst lotus plants; a buddhistic lion with a brocade ball frolicking amidst chrysanthemum; a peacock amidst peony; and a mythical horse galloping above waves amidst flowering stems and clouds; all between a band of lotus petals below and bands of bosses and key fret above.
25 in. (63.5 cm.) high; 31.5 in. (80 cm.) across handles.
