An unusual Louis XV style ormolu, cut brass and mother-of-pearl-mounted four-sided regulateur

Of bombé form, decorated overall with mother-of-pearl parquetry, the upper section with dials for a clock, barometer, thermometer and hydrometer, each with enamel plaquettes, the clock signed P. PARMA/CONSTANTINOPLE, the lower section applied to each side with a rocaille cartouche and centred to the clock side with a sultan's monogram and initials T.C., the angles applied with scrolling acanthus clasps, on scrolled acanthus feet, the top of the lower section with four indistinct ink stamps, probably customs stamps

The present regulateur, profusely veneered in mother-of-pearl, is certainly an example of increasinly rare furnishings from the 18th and 19th centuries executed with similar shell decoration. Few examples currently remain in tact, including a small bureau à cylindre supplied by Riesener to Marie Antoinette, now at Versailles.
