Comparable to a watercolour illustrated by A. Plaschaert, Korte Geschiedenis der Hollandse Schilderkunst, Amsterdam, 1923, plate 76. A further example is in the Fodor Collection, Historisch Museum, Amsterdam (catalogue, 1863, no. 655). This may be the French coast and is comparable to a number of Schelfhout's, one of which is dated 1843 (W. Laanstra, Andreas Schelfhout 1787-1870, Amsterdam, 1995, pp. 205 and 216, nos. M1843-1 and MO25-1)
