Dina Vierny has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

By the early 1920s, with his reputation at its zenith and commissions for monumental public pieces occupying much of his time, Maillol increasingly turned to the study of the female figure at her toilet, executed on a small scale and at close quarters. Maillol would seem to have found in such informal practice renewed inspiration. Se tenant un pied, with its melodius composition and delicate, crystalline features, is an example of Maillol's rarefied expression found through intimate observation.
