Armand Rousseau, Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques 1999
1er Cru, Côte de Nuits
One slightly damaged label
Tasting note: The expressive nose of spice, earth and Gevrey style sauvage hints presently mixes mostly secondary fruit aromas with the last vestiges of primary red fruit that is trimmed in enough wood to notice. The supple, round and delicious middle weight flavors display plenty of the hallmark minerality along with a lovely sense of balance on the solidly persistent finish that delivers fine is not truly outstanding depth. For my taste this has reached an inflection point in its aging curve where it could be drunk now with pleasure or held for a few more years first. As an aside, while this is a perfectly good wine, by the very high standards it typically achieves 1999 is not a standout vintage. Tasted multiple times recently with consistent results. 91p Burghound September 2014
