This work appears to be unrecorded, but in the general structure and figure types it is close to the work of Abel Grimmer, a master in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke. The composition loosely relates to a print by Nicolaes de Bruyn (Hollstein 171) based on a drawing by David Vinckboons now in Copenhagen (see K. Goossens, David Vinckboons, Soest, 1954, p. 64, fig. 30), which has traditionally been identified as 'The fair at Audenaarde or the kermesse of Saint George'.
