Bridge Place was built by Sir Arnold Braems (d. 1681), a rich merchant of Flemish descent who made his fortune developing the seafront at Dover. He was the patron of many Dutch artists working in England; Cornelius Johnson stayed at Bridge Place in the 1640s and Willem Schellincks in 1660. At that time, Bridge Place was the second largest house in Kent after Leeds Castle.
Ocker is believed to have worked in England in the late 1670s which is when this view of the house is thought to have been painted. A signed landscape by the artist was sold at Christie's, London, 23 April 2008, lot 26.
