Lot Essay

August Sander had his most important exhibition at the Kölnischer Kunstverein e.V. - the Cologne Art Circle - in 1927. The exhibition led to the publication of Antlitz der Zeit, Sander's first book, in 1929. Each year, in an effort to stimulate collecting, the Art Circle offered its member's works by prominent artists; Itinerant Mason was offered in 1975 in an edition of 130.
