PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY BELLOW TO THE ART CRITIC HAROLD ROSENBERG AND HIS WIFE, THE NOVELIST MAY TABAK on the front free endpaper: "For Harold and May from their old friend Bellow." Despite his long career, Bellow presentations are scarce on the market, especially with such a significant association. Bellow and Rosenberg first met in the 1930s in the circle of left-wing writers and artists associated with the Partisan Review. Rosenberg is one of the many intellectuals referenced in Bellow's Humbolt's Gift. Bellow won his third National Book Award for Herzog, and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1976.
