Lot Essay

The subject of this oil study is a small island situated midstream on the river Llugwy near Capel Curig, North Wales, with Moel Siabod visible in the far distance. The island features in a number of Leader's large scale works of the period, for example his 1860 Royal Academy exhibit A Quiet Valley among the Welsh Hills (Worcester Museum and Art Gallery) and Near Capel Curig (The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool).

We are grateful to Ruth Wood for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
