(Lacking A3.4, marginal wormtrack at hinge of 4 quires.) Contemporary limp vellum, three calf spine bands, title lettered along spine, yapp edges, remains of two ties; modern green cloth folding box. Provenance: contemporary annotations giving Latin translations and supplying missing identifications, and a partial classified index at end.
FIRST EDITION OF THIS ARTIST'S MODEL BOOK FOR THE ANIMAL KINGDOM. As the title states, it was intended for the use of painters, goldsmiths and other craftsmen. On each page are depicted animals of the earth, water and air, including many fantastical and mythical creatures. The woodcuts are from Albertus Magnus, Thierbuch, printed the previous year by Jacob.
