Bouchard Père et Fils, La Romanée 1978
Grand Cru, Côte de Nuits
In original wooden cases
1978***** Outstanding for Red, **** Very Good for white
In 1961 Bordeaux had the last word, it was in 1978 that Burgundy reigned supreme. Wet June led to uneven flowering. Less sun during summer, exceptional late Indian summer. End of August and September made the vintage. Harmonious, silky structured wines with great length.
One of the best vintages of the century, legendary wines.
Recorked in 2012.
Tasting note: Healthy deep ruby red. Expressive aromatic nose with tones of forest floor. Softly smooth taste. Wine of finesse with good depth and fine lingering acidity, typical for 1978.
