4° (171 x 132mm). Engraved frontispiece by Robert Vaughan. Folding letterpress 'Draught of the Frontispiece' inserted between A2 and B1. Ruled borders to title and text, printer's flowers and other ornaments. (Frontispiece shaved at upper margin with partial loss of heading, F8 shaved with loss of rule, a few other margins close-shaved, P1v and P2r with small soil marks, some browning of page edges.) Late 19th-century green morocco by S. Kaufmann, spine with raised bands directly lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins and edges. Provenance: Duke of Sussex, Wrest Park (bookplate retained from an earlier binding).
Second edition, the first being published in 1630. Grolier Wither to Prior 67; STC 3564; together with Henry Peacham the Younger's work of the same name, The Compleat Gentleman, London: 1661, 4°, red morocco, 'third edition,' the first having appeared in 1622 [Wing P-943]; and Brathwaites's Ar't Asleeepe Husband: A boulster lecture, London: 1640, 8° (worming affecting headbands, ruled border and first line of text in places), black morocco.
