Lot Essay

According to the Archives of Montres Breguet, the present watch with counter and tachymeter was completed on 25 June 1935 and sold to Mr. de Becker on 26 June 1935 for the amount of 2,800 Francs.

Until the introduction of the better known and today again revived Type XX, originally mostly reserved for the French armed forces, chronograph wristwatches by Breguet made before World War II are considered much rarer than those from the others prestigious manufacturers, such as Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin. Even Cartier, known to have finished only very small quantities of chronograph wristwatches at that time, has probably exceeded Breguet's production.

Whereas the few examples of pre-war chronograph wristwatches by Breguet known to date are commonly fitted with the more common 2 push-button calibres, the present watch is one of the few single button chronographs made by this legendary company.
