Lot Essay

Carel Weight studied at Hammersmith School of Art from 1926 to 1929, and his best-known work portrayed daily life in the London boroughs of Hammersmith, Battersea and Clapham. Weight painted the present work from Julian Trevelyan's studio on Durham Wharf which looked down the river towards Hammersmith Bridge.
