Two exquisite clocks in the shape of gem-set agate snuff bottles (Lots 2807 and 2808), now updated with modern technology in these two examples, clearly demonstrate the influence of the Chinoiserie style – the European interpretation of Chinese artistic traditions – greatly favoured by the denizens of Europe and Louis Carter himself.
