Tunnicliffe studied the snowy owl at Chester Zoo and sketches are published in C.F. Tunnicliffe, R.A., A Sketchbook of Birds, ed. I. Niall, London, 1979, p. 93. Tunnicliffe moved from Cheshire to Anglesey in 1947 and lived at Shorelands, a house right on the estuary of the River Cefni, Malltraeth Bay.
