Charles Hossein Zenderoudi painted the present work titled ABYANEH in
1973, at a time when the art trend known as Letterism was one of the leading
artistic movements in Europe. The French art critic Pierre Cabanne has described
Zenderoudis paintings of that period as being all over hypergraphic. Cabanne
was referring to the fact that ABYANEH and other works painted by Zenderoudi
in this period, in fact fall under the field of painting as opposed to writing as
Zenderoudi filled the entire space of his canvases with abstract shapes all over,
very much in line with American Abstract Art.
(Extract from the Charles Hossein Zenderoudi/Mraz catalogue raisonn).
Charles Hossein Zenderoudis works are featured in major private and public
collections around the world including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris,
the British Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. As early as 1971, the well-known French magazine Connaissance des Arts designated Zenderoudi as one of the ten most important living artists, alongside
Frank Stella and Andy Warhol.
