Tasting Note: First tasted in the most impressive cave - literally a cave, a Roman underground quarry in St-Emilion - in April 1998: impressively deep, fairly intense, a certain leanness and masculinity. More recently, at the MW tasting of '96s: very forthcoming nose and I thought, pretty alcoholic; medium dryness and medium-full body. Very straightforward. Once such an uneven performer, Ausone seems to have taken on a new lease of life without losing its distinctive character. Last tasted November 2000 (****) Say 2008 - 2020 M.B.
