Château Latour--Vintage 1975
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: 1975 is a vintage perhaps unjustly forgotten today. Acclaimed in its day, the vintage was small but high quality. Frost in March reduced yield as did poor weather during flowering. After a fairly cool spring, however, the year was marked by a hot, dry summer, giving firm tannins. Rain in September was heavy but localized (especially in the Medoc), but generally helped the fruit to ripen. The harvest began on the 2 September for the Merlot, and continued through 8 October for the Cabernets. The wines are big, solid and sturdy - built to last the test of time.
"Given enough time, Latour always seems to emerge as the leader of the Pauillac first-growths. Classic walnut, cedar, minerals, tobacco, and cassis aromas. Drinkable if decanted several hours in advance, this wine should be cellared until the turn of the century and drunk during the following three decades." 90 points, Robert Parker, February, 1996
"Medium deep garnet-red; restrained nose with concentrated fruit, cassis and pepper; intense, mineral fruitiness on the palate, with sandy tannins and raisiny, brisk finish." At Christies King Street, Anthony Hanson M.W., November 2005
