Château Latour--Vintage 2009
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Lots 1-5: Delivery on these lots will be arranged following bottling in Fall 2011.
VINTAGE NOTE: The first decade of the 21st century has been very kind to wine producers in Bordeaux and there have been a string of vintages both good and great. Arguably, none is finer than 2009. This has produced wines characterized by both exceptional ripeness and impressive balance: none of the super-ripe, porty character of the 2003, with tannins that are riper and suppler than either 2000 or 2005, the vintage continues to astound with its depth of quality. These are classic wines that will be the reference standard for years to come: if you are too young to have bought the '82 on release, now is your chance to buy something of comparable quality.
"The 2009 Grand Vin from Latour was a bit closed initially on the nose but revealed all the galaxy of flavor on the palate, with very ripe plum blackberry, and currant fruit, a fresh leather and exotic spices along with very firm but very fine tannins, wonderful density and a lovely penetrating finish." Charles Curtis M.W., April 2010
"The 2009 Latour has off the charts concentration in addition to the highest level of tannin ever measured at the estate. Possibly a 100-year wine, it boasts an inky/black/purple color as well as an extraordinary perfume of super-intense blue and black fruits, graphite, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality. Enormously full-bodied yet at the same time incredibly fresh, vibrant, and precise, it coats the mouth, and builds incrementally to skyscraper-like texture, and a whopping finish that lasts over a minute. A monumental wine from a monumental vintage in the Médoc, this is our children's children's children's elixir." 98-100 points, Robert Parker, April 2010
