Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1975
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Slightly corroded capsule. Badly bin soiled and damaged, label semi- detached. Level upper-shoulder
Tasting note: Like a fully-primed bomb waiting to go off, at a tasting in 1979. Packed, concentrated, with promises of things to come. They did. Just short of 20 notes most of which dwell upon its spicy fragrance - but also teeth-gripping tannin. Of the seven weird and wonderful occasions over the last decade, including a highly marked magnum, 'very attractive but a bit astringent' (just part of a note made at a major tasting in 1994). Another magnum in 1995: still deep and impressive, crisp flavour, full body and flavour, soft, mouthfilling with a perfect finish. At best ****. I think it is worth requoting my Jayne Mansfield analogy: 'mean, moody and magnificent' M.B.
