Château Pichon-Longueville, Lalande--Vintage 1981
Pauillac, 2me cru classé
In original wooden case. Levels: eight base of neck, four top-shoulder
Tasting Note: In its early days deep in colour, fragrant, with taut, spicy, eucalyptus flavour and excellent aftertaste. Eight notes since, mainly in the mid-1990s including a classic magnum, bottles with lovely, mulberry-ripe aroma, gloriously rich but fairly high tannins. Most recently, still rich and ripe; full-flavoured, masked tannin. More to come. A very good '81. Last tasted Jan 1999 **** Worth looking out for. M.B.
