Lot Essay

This is presumably the replica mentioned by Florence Ingersoll-Smouse, loc. cit., of the painting bought with its pendant, Le Retour de la Pêche, by M. Poulhariez in 1759 for 1,000 livres. That picture, formerly in the collection of the Earls of Shrewsbury, Alton Towers, was engraved by P. Benazech in 1771.
