The plate maker's mark on the reverse reads KW (see J. Wadum, 'Antwerp copper plates', Copper as Canvas. Two Centuries of Masterpiece Paintings on Copper, 1575-1775, New York and Oxford, 1999, p. 103). This mark can also be found on copper plates used by Jan Brueghel I, Abraham Govaerts, Ambrosius Bosschaert I, Frans Francken II, Otto van Veen and others. It can therefore be assumed that the coppersmith worked in Antwerp in the early 17th Century.
