Lot Essay

Brueghel the Younger continued his father's penchant for illustrated Flemish proverbs; admonitions against anything from religious practices to dirty homes. The present small tondo represents a Dutch saying loosely translated as 'finding the dog in the pot'. The laboring husband has come home late, only to find that the dog has eaten his meal.
