A RECTANGULAR PARCEL-GILT ENAMEL, GILT-COPPER-MOUNTED CASKET

The hinged lid with seven panels and acanthus-decorated handle and the body with six panels on four female caryatid feet; the enamel scenes painted with putti cavorting and inscribed extensively in gilt lettering Limousin dialect, the lock concealed by a movable female bust; minor damages, losses and repairs
This casket is one of a number of caskets seemingly from the same workshop which have traditionally been attributed to the enameller Couly Nouailher. However, in her recent publication Sophie Baratte (loc. cit.) dismisses this idea as having been based on flawed evidence, without proposing a possible alternative for authorship.
