CORNELIUS LE BRUYN
Travels into Muscovy, Persia, and Part of the East-Indies, London: for A. Bettesworth, C. Hitch [and 8 others], 1787. 2° (348 x 222mm.). Engraved frontispiece, 87 plates only, 3 double-page maps, and 44 illustrations. (Lacking portrait and some plates, frontispiece trimmed and laid down, some repairs, mostly marginal, some light browning and thumb-soiling, spotted.) Early 20th-century calf-backed cloth (front joints split at bottom, extremities rubbed).

What constitutes a perfect copy of this work seems open to question: the 'above 320 copper plates' called for on the title refer to the number of images. Most of the plates include more than one image, and one includes as many as eight. This copy comprises the frontispiece, 246 illustrations on 87 plates, 3 maps and 45 images printed as 44 illustrations (the plate printed on p.142 in vol. one bears two images): a total of 295 images. Sold not subject to return.
