4 volumes, 4 (323 x 232mm). French and English titles printed in red and black, title vignettes by C. Grignion after A. Walker coloured by a contemporary hand, and 480 hand-coloured engraved plates of international costume. (Text leaves in first two volumes lightly browned, some stains and spotting, plate 172 nearly detached, a few gatherings loose.) 19th-century sheep (slight wear at extremities, crack in spine of vols. 2 and 4).

In addition to the colourful costumes of all nations are two scenes of colonial America after Benjamin West, one depicting Colonel Bouquet meeting with native Americans, and the other the Indians delivering to Bouquet the English captives.
