Lot Essay

The artist travelled to Rome in 1783, and remained in Italy until after 1792, possibly even until 1801, drawing mainly landscapes. Similar drawings from the Hans van Leeuwen Collection were sold in these Rooms, 24 November 1992, lots 288-9. Another view of Cori is included in lot 275 in this sale.
