Bernadette van Haute dates the present work to circa 1648. She points out that the composition and subject closely resembles the painting of Taste, without the secondary figure (see op. cit., p. 100, no. A61, p. 318, fig. 61). The absence of a secondary figure points to the present work not representing an Allegory of Taste but a study of an old peasant woman.
