A BINDING FROM THE LIBRARY OF KING LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE. As Olivier notes, in the early years of his reign Louis XIV employed a fer used by Louis XIII (cf. 2494, note to fer 1), and this binding, on a volume published the year after Louis XIII's death, uses a fer which is a slight variant on that which was common to the two sovereigns.
