Lot Essay

Asked in a joint interview with her husband Bernard Dunstan for the Royal Academy Magazine (Spring 2006) about their 'Englishness', Diana Armfield once said : 'Perhaps it is reticence. In my art, I'm always trying to express something which I'm admiring. The last thing I'm thinking about is expressing myself'.
