Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is a family-owned Domaine founded in 1863 by Frédéric Mugnier with the purchase of the Château de Chambolle-Musigny from the Marey-Monge family and vines in Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Today the Domaine, based in Chambolle-Musigny is run by Jocelyne and Frédéric Mugnier. The Domaine owns 13.5 hectares of vineyards, including 1.14 hectares of Le Musigny and 0.35 hectares of Bonnes-Mares and the 10 hectares of Clos de la Maréchale in Nuits Saint Georges and 4 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny. In 2004 Frédéric Mugnier took back the monopole Clos de la Maréchale in Nuits-St.-Georges which had been leased to Domaine Faiveley for the 50 previous years. Frédéric Mugnier’s approach to both viticulture and wine-making is aimed at preserving in the wines the purest expression of nature with minimal interference from technological practices. Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is best known for their superlative Musigny, but they are also renowned for their Bonnes Mares, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses and Clos de la Maréchale. Their 1.14 hectare parcel in the fabled Musigny vineyard is located in the prime area known as “Grand Musigny”. Their vines were planted between 1947 and 1962, and these old vines produce low volumes of exceptional quality, with annual production varying between 2000 and 5000 bottles. Their Musigny is an incredible wine with richness and depth of flavour and an exceptional length. The longevity is undoubted and rewards those lucky enough to taste a Mugnier Musigny that has had time in bottle to evolve and reveal the multi-layered nuances and complexities of a mature Pinot Noir.
