Lot Essay

Doris Clare Zinkeisen was a painter, theatre and costume designer, illustrator and official war artist. She studied at Harrow School of Art alongside her sister, Anna Katrina. Doris married in 1927 and exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salons in 1929 and 1930, the latter of which saw Zinkeisen win a silver medal for the entry of the present portrait.
