Lot Essay

It has been suggested the present work depicts the church at Auppegard where the artists Nan Hudson and Ethel Sands had a château and were visited by Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell. Although dedicated in 1940, the watercolour is thought to have been painted circa 1928.
