Lot Essay

The present view was painted in London at 8 Fitzroy Street, the artist's studio, which was destroyed in the war in the following year. In the background is one of the large painted canvases The Flower Gatherers, a section of a mural for H.M.S. Queen Mary, which was rejected by the company officials. The word Opel is an advertisement for a make of car on the back of a magazine.
