2° (435 x 310mm). FIRST EDITION, COLOUR PRINTED, OF THIS EARLY EXAMPLE OF LITHOGRAPHY, and the most ambitious lithographic book of its day. Dürer's designs for the book of hours of Maximilian I are printed in violet, sepia, red, black and green, following the original. This first publication from Senefelder's Munich studio is possibly the first completely lithographed book, and represents an important experiment with the still nascent technique of lithography, which Senefelder invented. Brunet II 914; PMM I 623; Winkler 831, 13-14.
