Travels in Various Countries of Europe, Asia and Africa, London: for T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1816-24. 11 volumes, 8° (216 x 129mm.). Engraved portrait frontispiece and 42 engraved maps, plans and plates, illustrations. (A few maps with short tears, a few plates browned, occasional mainly light spotting and offsetting). Contemporary calf (some vols. with detached covers, one lacking, some spines worn). Provenance: John Russell (bookplates). Fourth edition.
Blackmer 494: "Many of the plates are after drawings by Préaux, who sold them to Clarke when they met whilst Lusieri and Préaux were working for Lord Elgin in the Troad. This work also describes Clarke's travels in Scandinavia, Moscow, Constantinople, Syria and Palestine and includes a catalogue of the library of the monastery at Patmos, an essay on Greek libraries by Walpole and excerpts from Heber's account of his travels in Russia and the Crimea."
