EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his son, Hans Albert, n.p. [Paris], 8 November 1929, illustrated with two sketches of a chair (the first cancelled), two pages, 4to, on a bifolium; envelope.
THE PRESSURES OF FAME. Einstein is in Paris, to give a couple of lectures amongst other things, and makes arrangements to drop in on Hans Albert on his way back, 'if I'm not completely worn out' ['wenn ich nicht ganz kaput bin']. He writes on three other matters, in numbered paragraphs, giving advice on Hans Albert's work on a patent, offering him some chairs which had been in the Zurich flat (the sketches illustrate their appearance -- 'roughly like that, a bit narrower. Perhaps you remember?'), and transmitting an invitation from a professor (Ludwig Hopf) in Aachen 'who once gave you a wonderful railway when you were little', wondering if this could be an excursion in Hans Albert's 'hellish contraption' [car]. For the moment 'I have to get up on a trapeze and lecture in French on my new theory, at the Institut Poincaré. It will be a hellish strain. And I have almost another week of this in front of me'. At least living in the embassy makes him harder for people to reach.
