'THE NOBLE GODDESS OF WISDOM LEADS ME AROUND BY THE NOSE'. Eduard's expression of interest in scientific matters has astonished his father, but he has sent him a 'sober but clever book' on the subject, in the hope that it will provide pleasure. His eldest son Hans Albert is coming 'mit Dame' for Christmas, but in the meantime Einstein is retreating to his refuge in the chauffeur's flat of Janos Plesch's large lakeside estate outside Berlin. Eduard is 'now of an age when you should be spending a lot of time with me', and Einstein proposes they spend Easter together. Einstein's health is better, 'so long as I keep very still and go nowhere ... I am working very hard and the noble goddess of wisdom leads me about by the nose. I still don't know whether there is really life in my new egg'.
