SUGGESTED APPLICATIONS FOR HIS SON'S TECHNICAL WORK. Einstein writes in appreciation of a paper by Hans Albert, 'I find your model very fine and have now worked out what it is all about. A shaft propels two elements with opposing motions, whereby the amplitude of one may be varied using a setting-lever. But I still haven't really understood what application you have in mind for it. Is it a control for the ventils of a motor? Or does the element with adjustable amplitude work as a control for the volume of a pump for injecting fuel into a cyclinder?'; he goes on to ask what set Hans Albert on to this construction, and proposes a potential difficulty with the resistance of the lever.
