Lot Essay

The Derby of 1978 was one of the most exciting races in the event’s history, and was won by Shirley Heights, with Greville Starkey up. Second was Hawaiian Sound, and third Remainder Man.
Out of Mill Reef, Shirley Heights was the finest horse ever produced by the stables of Lord Halifax, and he went on to win the Epsom Derby twice, the Irish Derby, the Royal Lodge Stakes and the Dante.
