There are a number of recorded variants of this cabinet. One, also in macassar ebony, is a more simple geometric form compared to the present example with the fluted pediment and central section accentuated with an octagonal motif and partially fluted stepped base. Ruhlmann made another cabinet in burl amboyna with a silvered-bronze plaque by Janniot. A further example, lacquered in red with fluted front was made for the wealthy Northern French textile manufacturer Louis Nicolle.
