The present work is thought to show Combwell Priory. Combwell was two miles from Goudhurst and, after its surrender following the Dissolution, was granted to Thomas Culpeper, later passing to William Campion. The priory remained in the ownership of the Campion family until circa 1657, when the family moved to Sussex. The priory was finally demolished in the 18th century.
