Lot Essay

The sitter became rector of Langton Church, near Blandford Forum, Dorset in 1721 and is believed to have finished building Langton House, seen in the background of the present picture, in the same year. He remained as the rector until his death in 1765 when the house passed to his daughter Honeyfield.
