Lot Essay

Ernest Gimson was greatly influenced by William Morris and believed that the craftsman should have a direct relationship with the materials. Executing his designs, therefore, was time consuming as he employed only one small circular saw for cutting fine veneers. Here chamfering and alternating light dark veneer inlays emphasise the structure of his design.
