FIRST EDITION of Fitzgerald's second book of stories. PRESENTATION COPY TO HIS LITERARY AGENT HAROLD OBER, inscribed by Fitzgerald covering most of front free endpaper: "For Harold Ober who fathered The Camel's Back Benjamin Button The Diamond as Big as the Ritz The Jellybean The Lees of Happiness & The Russet Witch from his gratefully F. Scott Fitzgerald (note the Table of Contents)." The year "1922" is written at an angle below this, presumably in Fitzgerald's hand (publication day was September 22). The six stories in the inscription that Ober "fathered" were the ones sold to magazines through his agency. Among the other five "Tales of the Jazz Age" is the well-known "May Day." Bruccoli A9.I.a.
