Lot Essay

The picture copies a composition from the workshop of Rubens in the church of St. Eustache, Paris, which was engraved by Willem Swanenburg (see J.G. van Gelder, 'Rubens in Holland in de zeventiende eeuw', in: Nederlands Kunsthistorisch Jaarboek, 3/1950-1, p. 123, with illustration).
